NTNU at ICERI24: Advancing Research on Video Conferencing in Higher Education
ICERI24 (https://iated.org/iceri/) was held in Sevilla, Spain 11th till 13th November 2024. The conference attracts people, just above 900, from all over world, especially Asia, Europe and USA, and has a high focus on Educational Technology combined with pedagogical approaches. NTNU got accepted with two papers related to the EdViCon-project; “State-of-the-art video conferencing technologies and practices. A review of the literature in a Norwegian context”, and “How to mitigate and overcome possible pain points when designing portable conference systems for higher education”. The papers where presented by Tord Talmo in the same session, which attracted approximately 45 participants. The papers are now published at the IATED Digital Library.
The first article contains a systematic review of the literature on EdViCon-systems and procedures in Norway in the period 2017-2022. The main results show that the focus is on pedagogy, and that there are few articles published on the subject. This indicates that video conferencing in Norway is not widespread, and theta Norwegian institutions are well equipped with technologies to perform these types of lectures. The second article follows up on previous research identifying problems when designing for video conferencing. The main focus is on the importance of good sound and image, as well as introducing ideas on using the pedagogy-space-technology framework (PST).
There were a lot of interest and good response from the conference, and NTNU will probably also participate with another article in 2025.
